Advice EVERY Young Person Should Know

March 28th, 2007 · No Comments · General

Today I am going to share some advice every young person should know.

Being Young Is Tough
From a financial aspect it really sucks being young. You may get an allowance, but often there are strings attached to that as well. Did you also know that young people are far more likely to suffer from violence than older people? Make no mistake about it, being successful whilst you are young is tough.

Opportunities For Youngsters
Do not panic. There are opportunities for youngsters… there is one major resource that every young person has lots and lots of…… TIME.

Have you ever heard the phrase “time is money”? well it is true! You are unlikely to have as many responsibilites now as you will have in 10 or 20 years, so it is important to invest that time wisely and you could live a very successful life.

How To Get an Income

Most youngsters start off by doing labour. Luckily this can also be done from behind a PC screen (certainly beats sweeping floors). Getting your first job will always be the hardest, so do not be put off if you find it hard to get your first job.

If you are not able to work from home then remember that appearance is everything. Here are some tips to help you get that first job:

* Present yourself well. Dress conservatively in a tie, business shirt, trousers, and business shoes. Press your clothes well, be clean, and keep your hair tidy. Get rid of flashy jewelry and cover up tattoos.
* Be well spoken and polite.
* Have an enthusiastic attitude, show them that you’re willing to do what’s necessary to get the job.
* Don’t come across as someone with emotional problems.
* Be willing to commute to an area other than the one you live in if necessary.

Be Realistic

When you first enter the work enviroment you will notice that reality can be a lot harder than you may have expected. Also note that the amount you get paid is based on two main factors:
How important the problem you’re being paid to solve is, and how confident the person paying you to solve it is in your ability to do so.

There are two key tricks to doing this.

1) Education - A good education is a great asset to have. It generally really impresses employers, and it is also a great way to meet chicks ;-)

2) Experience - In my opinion experience beats education EVERYTIME. Why is it that so many celebs and business mega stars dropped out of school?

Try to get as much of both of the above before applying for well paid jobs.

Resist Temptation

There are many temptations as a youngster. But avoiding these temptations are key to being successful. Dealing drugs, getting drunk, getting your girlfriend pregnant, getting into crime etc… are all going to seriously harm your chances of doing well.

Good luck.
