I recently read that the web hosts DreamHost are asking their customers to ban Google from visiting their sites.
I don’t know where to start with this…
It is the stupidest move I have ever heard of.
Here is the email that DreamHost have been sending: Dream Host email (credit to SEOpedia.
A rep from DreamHost had this to say:
“
We feel that the best solution for our customers is to stop just the malfunctioning behavior and keep _everyone’s_ sites working as well as possible on the machine
.”
This is like asking a store owner to remove their front door.
So Dreamhost are officially the idiots of the week.

Good grief, that really takes the cake. From the email, it appears that dreamhost is not only advising their customers to ban Googlebot, but actually taking it upon themselves to do the blocking. Did they even ask permission first? From the email it appears that they didn’t.
What an incredibly stupid move by dreamhost.

I host with them and no issues. Google bot comes by all the time. I have thousands of pages that Google visits everyday.
