Today I am going to share with you a trick that will help you grab your reader’s attention.

This is a trick that has been known in many marketing and copywriting circles for a number of years, and whilst it is simple, it is also highly effective.

I like to call it “the fact leader”

It is essentially a cool fact or interesting stat, that you then use to lead into your sales message, newsletter, blog post etc…

Here is an example:

Did you know that Owls are one of the only birds who can see the colour blue? Which reminds me of a client I spoke to earlier who demanded that I use flash for my homepage. I tried telling the client that Google cannot read flash… blah blah

Do you see what I am doing?

The reader reads the fact/interesting opener, and starts to focus on what you are saying. By the time you lead into your sales message, they are already paying full attention.

Let’s try some other examples:

Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure, but I guarantee that it is nothing compared to the pleasure I had when I checked my adsense account this morning….

or,

A cockroach can live several weeks with its head cut off after which it dies of starvation, but a blog needs to be updated regularly in order to survive.
